Loose washers have a habit of disappearing. They roll under the bench, get left out at reassembly or end up on the wrong bolt. A flange bolt removes the problem by building the washer into the head. Make that bolt from titanium and you also remove the weight and the rust.
What a flange actually does
The flange is a wide, flat collar formed under the head. When the bolt is tightened, the flange presses on a much larger area than a plain head would. That has three effects you'll notice in use:
- Less surface damage. The load is spread out, so soft or painted surfaces don't get dented or marked.
- Better grip. The larger contact area resists loosening under vibration.
- Fewer parts. No separate washer to buy, stock, lose or forget.
Titanium flange bolts add the light weight and corrosion resistance titanium is known for. In practice, that makes them a natural fit for parts that are both visible and exposed to weather.
Where flange bolts make the most sense
Some joints are made for a flange. Others aren't. As a rule of thumb, choose a flange head when:
- The surface is soft or finished. Aluminium, carbon, plastic and painted panels all benefit from the wider footprint.
- The hole is oversized or slotted. A flange bridges the gap where a plain head might pull through.
- The joint vibrates. Engines, chassis parts and moving assemblies hold better with more contact area.
- Assembly speed matters. One part per joint means quicker builds and fewer mistakes.
A plain head with a separate washer still wins when the space under the head is tight, or when a joint needs a special washer such as a spring or wedge-lock type.
Two ways to drive it
The head on this bolt accepts two tools. You can turn it with a star bit from the top, or put a spanner or socket on the outside. That helps in tight corners, where only one tool will reach. It also gives you a backup if one drive gets worn.
Fitting titanium bolts: a few tips
Titanium behaves a little differently from steel on the bench. These habits will help your bolts last:
- Use an anti-seize compound on the threads. Titanium can gall when it slides against itself or stainless steel under load. A thin layer prevents that.
- Follow the torque the joint calls for. Titanium is strong, but it isn't a reason to tighten past the specification.
- Check the mating thread. Damaged or dirty threads are the most common cause of trouble with any fastener.
- Don't mix up colours and lengths. If you use anodised bolts, keep each length in its own colour so they go back in the right place.
None of this is complicated. It's the same care you'd give a good steel bolt, plus a little anti-seize.
How to buy titanium flange bolts
There are two simple routes, depending on what you have in front of you.
You know the size. Send the diameter, pitch, length and quantity. Add the finish you want. That's enough for us to quote.
You have an old bolt or a drawing. Send a picture of the bolt beside a scale, or the drawing itself. We'll work out the size and confirm it with you before production.
Either way, you can buy titanium flange bolts online without registering or using a shopping cart. Titanium flange bolts for sale on this site are produced against each order. Every bolt is cut to the length you ask for, rather than the closest stock size.
Ordering titanium flange bolts online, step by step
- Request. Send your list, drawing or photo.
- Quote. We confirm the details and send a price with a delivery date.
- Production. Your bolts are machined and finished.
- Inspection. Dimensions are checked on every lot.
- Delivery. The parts ship with a material certificate.
Planning to buy titanium flange bolts online again later? Just quote the part number and how many you need, since the specification stays on file. Titanium flange bolts online orders from abroad are shipped with full export paperwork.
